October 1st marks the day of the official enrollment counts for the Bend-La Pine School District. Here are 10 facts in which you might be interested.
- The enrollment this year is 552 students greater than last year. The growth is spread over all levels.
- Five hundred and fifty two students is equivalent of one of our large elementary schools.
- Remember, for each student we receive from the State funding formula roughly $6,100 per weighted pupil.
- We are right at 15,900 students, making us the 7th largest school district in the state.
- We are the fastest growing large (over 10,000 students) school district in the state of Oregon. In fact, our total growth of 552 students in the greatest of any district for which we can find enrollment data.
- This years graduating class (the class of 2008) entered kindergarten in 1995. Since then we have grown 40% or 4,600 students, the equivalent of one high school, one middle school and 4.5 large elementary schools.
- Since 2000 we have grown a total of 22% or 2,870 students.
- The median sized school district in the state of Oregon is 840 students. Cascade Middle School and High Lakes Elementary School are both around 840 students.
- Our long-range forecast is for more than 23,000 students by 2025. However, if our current growth continues, we will reach that number by 2020.
- By level, without factoring in modular classrooms, overall, elementary schools are 558 over school capacity; middle schools are 393 students under capacity; and high schools are right at capacity.
